CME head of precious metals Vias leaves after four months

Miguel Vias, CME Group head of precious metals, has left the company today, Metal Bulletin has learnt.

Vias was appointed head of precious metals in July following the departure of Harriet Hunnable, who is now the manager of benchmark policy at the Financial Conduct Authority.

Vias joined the CME in 2012. Prior to that, he worked at Mitsui, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley. He will join a fintech start-up Ripple.

Earlier this month, the CME announced it will launch new London spot gold and silver futures for spot spreads in January next year.

London’s gold market is becoming increasingly competitive – earlier this year, the London Metal Exchange (LME) said it was planning to launch spot and futures gold and silver contracts in the first half of 2017. Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) will also introduce a London gold daily futures contract in February next year, it said.
